Sex, it is nothing to be ashamed of and it is no secret that you want it and need it. It can help boost your immunity, lower blood pressure and other health risks induced by stress. Though, when we talk about it, there’s nothing worse than a dry spell. Well, STD(s)/ STI(s) are worse but that’s not what we are talking about.
Everyone has dry spells and there are ways of taking care of it on your own but it’s nothing compared to the real thing. Anyone who’s ever had it knows comparing it to the real deal would be a fool’s errand.
This dry spell may sometimes be intentional but more often than not it is because we are busy in the rest of our lives that we hardly pay attention to the fact that we are not getting it on.
There are, however, a lot of negative effects to this no dance-with-no-pants phase. Not doing it can be quite heavy on your body, physically and mentally, in a lot of ways that you didn’t even realize. This holds more true for women who tend to get affected more mentally as compared to men.
Here are some of the many sure shot signs that a woman hasn’t done it in a long while and why her libido may be declining as well. These signs aren’t foolproof detectors or a substitution for consent.
1. BLOW TO THE SELF ESTEEM
When you haven’t got any action in a long time, your self confidence/ self esteem take a major hit. This holds more true if you had been doing it regularly before the dry spell. It can make you question your worth and even induce an existential crisis if it gets too extreme, not even kidding! It can make a women question if she’s unattractive or unworthy.
2. TEND TO KEEP FORGETTING THINGS
It can even make you forget things that you try to remember as it affects your memory and your ability to remember and recall things. The very fact that you haven’t done it in a long while can dominate your thoughts and can make you lose focus. As a result, you focus less on other things and other aspects of life.
3. TIRED, FATIGUED, INCOMPLETE SLEEP
When most of your mental energy is spent thinking about your dry spell consciously or subconsciously or even unconsciously, it makes your mind race constantly. This makes it difficult to focus on certain tasks – including sleep, especially sleep. It is known and has also been proven by studies that having sex can make you fall asleep faster as it makes you burn calories/ energy. Feeling tired, fatigued and out of sleep can also impact your desire to have sex, which can lead to a vicious cycle. It’s kind of ironic how thinking about having sex can contribute to you less likely to have sex.
4. AGING FACTOR
Not having sex for a long time is stressful, and stress can lead to an increase in age. Well, it won’t fast forward, but it causes the body to physically age. Stress causes certain chemical changes in the body which makes the appearance dull. That is why, stress is considered an enemy to beauty. You also lose your desire to have sex as you age, causing yet another irony. It would seem that these causes are more like vicious cycles or pitfalls which are difficult to escape from.
5. WEIGHT GAIN
This doesn’t necessarily hold true for everyone, neither does it affect everyone, but if you don’t exercise, lack of sex can make you fat and flabby. The average person burns 300 calories from an hour of sex. The average person doesn’t have an hour of sex either. So, this may not seem like much but when it adds up over time, it can certainly make an impact on the overall appearance which again causes a dent to the self esteem resulting in reduced libido. Exercise can help combat this and many other effects on this list that affect your sex life.
6. LOWERED IMMUNITY/ GETTING SICK OFTEN
It may sound like total baloney but it is true, in fact, it has been scientifically proven that having sex regularly can help boost your immunity and health. Not having sex, on the other hand, can increase your chances of getting sick. This would mean that engaging in regular sexual activity (consensual of course) isn’t actually a health risk but quite the opposite of it actually. This lowered immunity is actually caused by lack of sleep. If you don’t get good amount of rest, you don’t give your body enough time to heal. It increases your risk of contracting an illness. Some studies have also shown and proven that people who have sex regularly live longer on average.
7. ANTI SOCIAL/ EASILY IRRITATED
This is just yet another ironic factor of not having sex. In order to break the dry spell, you need to be willing to interact, talk and/ or meet with other people, but not having sex can actually make you more introverted. It’s just on the many vicious traps that accompany an inactive sexual life.
8. MEDICATIONS/ SUBSTANCES THAT REDUCE LIBIDO
As sickness reduces libido so does their remedy, certain medications kill the urge to have sex which may be contributing to a dry spell. There are many such medications that come with this unwanted side effect of a reduced sex drive. If you don’t to risk this, it’s better to consult with your doctor before starting the particular course of medicines.
